Are you interested in taking up rock climbing as an addictive hobby or a favorite pastime? Here are 3 valuable tips if you are an amateur climber just starting out in this fantastic sport.

Learn the ropes

When you’re ready to rock climb, just skip the first day and try climbing one. Climbing is basically a dangerous sport. Make sure you learn the ropes before venturing outside and trying to climb.

Get online and reach out to the professionals and get some valuable instructions or guidelines. Also, try to get used to rock climbing by practicing in gyms or indoor climbing centers. Not exactly the real deal. But you can learn a lot from there before risking your body abroad.

Find those in the fold

Rock climbing is a team sport. It is not a good idea to go climbing without people by your side. Also, there is no joy in being the Lone Ranger, you need people to cheer you on, tell you where the best rocks are, and generally share their experiences with you. Take a friend with you.

So whether it’s a natural cliff or an indoor climbing gym, join those who share your passion. Learn a thing or two from them. You don’t have to feel funny as the new recruit, who is still wet behind the ears and asks too many questions. The best climbers started out like you, with nothing but enthusiasm. Do the same.

If you live in an area with lots of natural landscapes, check out the climbing shops in the vicinity. Store owners will know how to point you in the right direction.

Learn the lingo

Rock climbing is a world of its own. And you need to learn the language; your life could really depend on it. If you are an amateur climber, know your team by heart by name and techniques, rock positions and first aid procedures.

Rock climbing has created a different language than the outside world. Learn and talk with your fellow climbers. So when you hear your fellow climber say ‘Elvis!’

You know he’s not remembering the late King of Rock and Roll, but rather hinting that his legs are shaking from exhaustion or deep exhaustion.
