When Jesus Christ poured out the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost, there is the symbolism of water, and refreshing, life-giving water, as Jesus pours out the Spirit, and there is so much more! Come and receive all that Jesus Christ has to give you.

He was anointed with the same Spirit by God the Father, when he came out of the waters of the Jordan River.

There is an outpouring and a flow, and that flow can occur at any time and in various ways.

If you are dry or feel spiritually barren, then come to Jesus Christ and seek that baptism and anointing with the Holy Spirit.

Be careful not to overlook or neglect that refreshing water that Jesus Christ gives because that well will never run dry!

The Spirit of God can also be symbolized with oil. Oil speaks of fuel and energy and don’t we need to be fed and fed by God and energized by the outpouring and life-giving Holy Spirit?

Of course, we need to be fed by the Word of God, so be sure to feed on the Holy Word of God daily. Seven days without the Word of God weaken. Yes, it’s an old saying but it’s also very true.

Jesus was anointed with the Spirit, and Jesus knows that each one of us needs to be anointed with the Holy Spirit. Never attempt to do the work of Almighty God without the anointing of God the Holy Spirit.

A few weeks ago, when I was reading and studying Psalm 133, there is an anointing coming down from the head and over the body! Jesus Christ is the head of the body, the Church and Jesus knows how his body needs that anointing, power and strength.

King David cried out to God that God would not take the Holy Spirit from him. We read about it in Psalm 51. David realized how indispensable the Holy Spirit was to his life, leadership, and service as king.

The oil also symbolizes relaxation or even the removal of friction. With so much antagonism, fighting and disputes in the world, and yes, even within the Church we are so in need of that calming, healing and softening oil of the Holy Spirit.

And, if we are going to keep our lamp burning and keep our lamp burning and burning, we are going to require a provision of the Holy Spirit.

Today we hear a lot about burnout and that can be in the church and it can also happen in the business and commercial world. The Holy Spirit can also keep a man from burning! Keep burning but avoid burnout.

Our lamp must be lit so that we can shed light in this darkening world.

God gives us mercy, grace, love and oil so that we may be light. It’s dark out there and we badly need God’s light to shine brightly.

We are called out of darkness into his glorious light, and that line is meant to be shared by our radiance.

Light can deal with darkness, and there is plenty of darkness to deal with!

How is your light? Is it just a flickering flame that few notice?

Is your light like a beacon that flashes and guides and points out where it is safe to navigate and where there are treacherous and dangerous rocks?

We need the oil of the Holy Spirit for these ministries.

The Holy Spirit also gives us understanding in our hearts and minds. It is as if sometimes the Holy Spirit turns on a light and we are able to see things clearly spiritually.

Of course, there is that breath of the Spirit of God. On the Night of the Resurrection, Jesus appeared in that room and breathed peace, life and hope into these his chosen disciples.

Ezekiel tells us how the Spirit came upon him and how the hand of the Lord was upon him.

The Spirit of God also intercedes for us, especially when we are not sure what to pray for, and where the Spirit is there is freedom and joy and love and peace.
