Every month we experience a new moon and two weeks later a full moon. I think everyone has experienced the sensation of the energy of the full moon, did you know that new moons, positive and negative ions also influence you?

New Moon

A new moon is a great time to let go of the old ways to bring new energy into your life. Now everything is in decline: vital energy, emotions and physiological activity. Plans that require significant effort are not advisable now. This is an unfavorable time for people with low blood pressure and those prone to depression.

full moon

The term Lunatic is derived from the word Lunar (Moon). Emotions, psychic energy and physical activity: everything is at its maximum. This is the time for increased creativity; however, for people prone to high blood pressure, epilepsy, or excessive excitement, the full moon period can bring too many excesses.

Around the full moon more positive ions are produced. After years of research around the world, Ion scientists have determined time and time again that an imbalance in the ratio between positive and negative ions has a profound effect on your mental and physical well-being. According to studies, 75% of the general population react better to negative ions, but are negatively affected by positive ions, while the other 25% react the opposite way, finding days with more positive ions euphoric and days with more negative ions dull.

A full moon somehow triggers more positive ions into the air and a new negative moon. When there are too many positive ions in the air, the body goes into overproduction of serotonin, which in turn leads to overactive adrenal production. Eventually, the adrenal gland is depleted. This leads to all sorts of emotional and behavioral problems ranging from depression to hyperactivity. The tides are highest during the full moon. If a full moon can have that kind of gravitational effect on a body of water, what do you think it can do to a person’s body, made up of more than 80% water?

According to Scientific American, the article Lunacy and the full moon states: “The Greek philosopher Aristotle and the Roman historian Pliny the Elder suggest that the brain was the ‘wettest’ organ in the body and therefore the most susceptible to the baneful influences of the moon, which triggered the tides. Even today many people believe that the mystical powers of the full moon induce erratic behavior, admissions to mental hospitals, suicides, homicides, ER calls, car accidents, professional hockey fights, games, dog bites and all sorts of strange occurrences.

One survey found that 45 percent of college students believe that crazed humans are prone to unusual behavior, and other surveys suggest that mental health professionals may be even more likely than laymen to hold this conviction. In 2007 several UK police departments even added officers on full moon nights in an effort to cope with the alleged higher crime rates.

Water at work? Following Aristotle and Pliny the Elder, some contemporary authors, such as the Miami psychiatrist Arnold Lieber, have conjectured that the purported effects of the full moon on behavior arise from its influence on water. The human body, after all, is about 80 percent water, so perhaps the moon works its mischievous magic by somehow disrupting the alignment of water molecules in the nervous system.”

Claiming to have an award for Excellence Police Guide, The Police Ops provides information on new and full moons, positive and negative ions, crowd control, counter-suicide, SWAT teams, and the K9 dog squad! I am amazed that the police follow the guidance on new and full moons. Next time you get pulled over, blame the moon…

On a personal note, I fit in with the minority of the population: I love full moons, sometimes I feel down around a new moon. I use the time of the new moon to meditate, reorganize and focus on new projects and plans, which in turn is always uplifting.

You can view the Light Stays moon phase calendar to find out when the moon will be full and new and see how it affects you.
