People have a big problem with their age and mentally limit their abilities accordingly. For many, turning 30 is a depressing thought. Why is it just a number? It is true that there are certain effects of aging, but our actions and our mentality can greatly limit them. Don’t create limiting beliefs by noting the media, etc. regarding what a certain age implies.

What are the facts? – What keeps us going on a daily basis and determines what we can achieve? Answer – Our heart, lungs and mind. What is the body? The vessel to transport the heart, lungs and mind. So why do we focus so much on the packaging? With a healthy heart and lungs and a positive mindset, you can achieve anything no matter your age. I personally have clients in their 50s and 60s that would put most modern 20-somethings to shame. They often run uphill, complete marathons, and lift impressive weights. You must have the belief that anything is possible and age should never come into the equation. Your skills come down to your mood.

This age mentality is definitely more evident in Europe than in the United States or Australia, where for the vast majority age means nothing and people exercise at all ages. Being Irish, I have been amazed at conferences in the US that start at 7am! Even at 6am, you would see people from the ages of 20 to 80+ going for a morning run. In gyms that are usually open 24 hours, the age range is wide again and if you attend a marathon or endurance test, the same is noticeable. The mindset is “what’s getting old?”

Externally, you can only do so much to delay the effect of aging, but if you have an active and healthy lifestyle and stick to it, you can live a very mobile, happy and successful life until it’s your time.
