Did you know that you can be successful in women’s basketball? You can create a magnetic force that attracts success in your own way. Players, coaches, and teams that excel and seem to be overwhelmingly successful over and over again don’t do it by accident. They implement these strategies.

Expect success

In 2008, the Davidson College men’s basketball team was 3 points away from going to the Final Four. I heard this comment on ESPN after Davidson lost to Kansas at Sweet 16.

“We were hoping to win,” Davidson’s coach Bob McKillop said. “We didn’t get here happy or satisfied. We expected to win. This has been a 12-month mission. It came down to one last play. That’s the beauty of this game that we play.”

Unfortunately, Davidson did not make the Final Four or win the National Championship. However, Davidson set many records during the 2007-2008 season.

I think if Davidson hadn’t expected to win, he wouldn’t have set records for the school year or been in a position to be 3 points away from playing in the Final Four.

Think of success

You are what you think.

Norman Vincent Peale said “Change your thoughts and you will change your world.”

If you change the way you think about basketball, you can change the direction of your basketball career.

Speak success

Talk about basketball in a positive tone to yourself.

You can post positive sayings or affirmations in your room, on your locker, or in your notebook and read them aloud. Sayings like “I’m a starter on the team,” “I believe in myself,” or “There’s a women’s basketball college scholarship for me.”

Waiting, thinking, and speaking successfully is just the beginning of creating success. It really is an amazing process. Because once you start to wait, think and talk about success, you will start to do the activities necessary for success to appear.
